Galveston Beach
Life after Ike I
A new hurricane season have started. NOAA tells us to expect 9-14 Tropical Storms, 4-7 Hurricanes where 1-3 will be Major Hurricanes. Hopefully none of the major ones will turn out as bad as Ike did in September 2008, Ike count as the third most destructive hurricane to ever make landfall in the United States.
We posted some pictures from the destroying of Galveston in our “After the Storm” series.
8 months later we were back. The sign of Ike’s destroying power still very visible. But also the new beginning, the rebuilding, the hope.
We start a new series today, with pictures from Galveston: The Life after Ike. The rebuilding.
The first picture is from the rebuilding of this house.
.
Gjenoppbygningen.

Stumble It!

Calm before the storm or after… We all do hope that there never be one again like Ike.
Living in a pert of the world that are saved from hurricanes it’s hard to imagine how it is to be in the middle of one.
there seems to be a lot of work to be done here.. nice shot..
Great photo… Great fear in perspective too… Be strong.
Amazing shot and amazing that they are allowed to rebuild so close to the Ocean.
This is a great photo! That foreground element coming out of the sand makes it look like a beach in Greece. Though Greek beaches don’t have those things sticking out of the sand. But like erosion brought back an ancient find. Can’t wait to see more of the Galvaston series.
Der var dere tilbake, har savnet innlegg hos dere
Naturen har skremmende krefter å by på når den herjer som her. Et godt bilde til ettertanke.
It is so frustrating to see how long it takes to clean up and start to rebuild after a disaster like this. The survivors must have great fortitude to rise to that challenge. I like this photo because it shows the force of nature competing with the willpower of humans. Look forward to more in your series.
It must have been a terrifying time when the hurricane hit for anyone still in the area. The forces of nature would have been horrific. Looking through the structure on the left … is that a high rise building in the distance? Are they hurricane proof in their construction?
The power and the destruction that nature can bring. This is a somber shot, contrasting with such hope in that blue sky. Amazing and well seen.
you have really captured the bleaching effect the sun and sea have.
A breathtaking picture that shows some of the devastation.. along with the quitness after the storm… Lets hope you dont have to see such destruction again. Great photo.
Nature can look so deceptively calm but the forces are beyond our imagination. The remnant emerging from the sands looks like something from a movie . .
Wow… It looks as if someone or something ruined a Roman city, and trashed it all around.
Sinking of an Empire feeling to this photo.
Nicely done
What amazing force that must have been, 8 months ago….
very interesting capture
It is like a lost city somewhat, with the pillar
Belle composition et joli rendu du traitement!
