Around the bend...

Around the bend…

We do not know what is around the bend, but the stark industrial setting and strange light (enhanced using HDR) attracted us.

And even though this is industry and not wood, it still reminded us about Robert Frost beautiful poem;

The Road Not Taken.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no feet had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less traveled by,
and that has made all the difference

  7. Wonderful composition and subject.

    Railways make for such wonderful subjects. I do love to wander around old railyards. We have a couple of old ones not too far from me where they restore old rail cars. I haven’t been to them in a while. You have given me an idea for today!

  8. I really like this shot, but it gives me a bit of an eerie feeling. Somehow I do associate it with WW2, mostly because of the tone and concrete setting.

  11. Awful. A vertigo of desolation and death.
    Beautiful !

  12. Excellent details, you did a great job on the HDR process here, very nice. with dark clouds framing it in, almost like taken out of a videogame just before something bad is about to happen, very Cool! :) :)

  20. Fantastisk!

  21. You’ve been so busy posting photos and I’ve been so lazy. This is a wonderfully done image. The sky looks like it might fall on to the tracks. You’ve made this place look very exciting!

    Michael PaulisonNovember 29th, 2008 at 23:25
  22. Shots like this show what HDR is capable of. The sky feels like a solid ceiling, enclosing the viewer in every direction. The only escape might be behind the bend, but who knows?

    MarcelNovember 30th, 2008 at 05:05
  23. Lost track of you for a bit. Great processing. Excellent work with this image.

  27. Unrealistic. Like a beginner’s experiment with HDR. We think you can do better.

  28. Like the idea, makes me wonder about what’s round the bend:)

  29. Even if it feels a little flat, then the clouds are just amazing to look at!

    ClausNovember 30th, 2008 at 13:30
  30. Excellent lines and perspective. Like the effect of the dramatic sky overhead.

  35. This HDR is really well done… maybe because it’s not so obvious. It’s a really nice shot!
