I just saw this man yesterday guiding three donkeys through plaza bastillo. He really is a local fixture. Him and the guy who plays Beatles tune sitting next to the san francisco church. Great Shot!

Skummel type Et intenst blikk dere har fanget her. For meg ser det ut som om han ikke helt er glad for å bli foreviget
I motsetning til dere selv og en del andre, syns jeg omgivelsene, inkludert vinduet, gir mye av stemningen i bildet. Det bidrar til en litt større fortelling om den bebartede mannen med hatt og stedet han lever. Et godt bilde som vireklieg formidler tilstedeværelse.

I sense a little tension there – the look in his eyes is somewhat inscrutable and suspicious.. As if he thinks “One wrong move or word, and I’ll put you behind the bars behind me…”

Great shot!
And I agree it was better not to crop it and leave the guy in his “natural surroundings” Adds much the the picture’s feeling/impression.

Though the subject is clearly the cowboy, I think it was better not to crop it much, giving us the opportunity to see the element where he lives. A nice portrait, indeed.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions! It is more than appreciated.
We did try different cropping, from just his face to the whole frame.
This has been slightly straighten and just cropped after that, so it is almost the original composition.
We found that the colors and texture of the walls added “something” to the image – in a way gave it the right atmosphere.

Agree with Geir that the left window is a bit disturbing and tried to “get rid of” it but that left the vanquero a bit “caged”.
So this is what we ended up with.
Cropping is – as everything else! – a matter of taste and preference, remember our first image “Stick and Stones”?

The strong points in this image are a) the face of the vasquero and b) the texture and light. I would consider cropping the image, since the left part and the window panes a little disturbing. But I'm sure that you've tried different solutions, and found this to be the best choice? Geirs last blog post..The Young Boy and the Sea
